Sgraffito butterfly mug

This mug was thrown on the wheel and once dry enough, it was trimmed and the butterfly designs on the outside were carefully created using a technique called sgraffitto: A black underglaze was applied and then the outline of the butterfly was scratched into it.    Once it was bone dried, it was bisque fired.  Then it was glazed, and fired again to this finished product.
